Your Compass In
Your Compass In

We are your guides, not gurus. At True North, we believe you already hold an inner compass, though life's trauma and noise often scramble the signal. Our mission is to help you clear the static and reconnect with your truest self.
As expedition leaders, we have navigated this difficult terrain and know the path forward. We provide the direction, but you must take the steps. We will point the way and offer the tools, but the journey requires your active choice and commitment. We are here to help you recalibrate and find your way home.

The Expedition
Beyond equine therapy, we provide diverse healing paths including clinical med management, one-on-one therapy, and somatic practices like Reiki and Yoga. We specialize in PTSD recovery, addiction counseling, and identity work to help you clear the noise and move forward.
Our offerings also include:
- Custom trail rides and Equine Assisted Learning for kids (& adults)
- Corporate team-building and expressive arts (Journaling, Vision Boards)
The True North Difference
We are gritty, real, and unapologetically anti-PC. We don't do cookie-cutter therapy or coddling because growth requires stepping outside your comfort zone. We provide the tools; you take the reins.
Your internal compass is waiting. Are you ready to find your way home?
Welcome to True North.

Dr. Susan Brown, DNP, PMHNP-BC

Based outside of Las Cruces, New Mexico
Dr. Brown is the steady hand at the helm. With a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of New Mexico, she has spent decades charting the territory of the human psyche. She has led hospitals, revolutionized eating disorder treatment approaches, and paved the way for modern psychiatric practice. She brings the clinical rigor and medical expertise that ensures this journey is not just transformative—it's safe.
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Brown bridges two worlds: the precision of evidence-based medicine and the intuitive wisdom of holistic healing. She can prescribe and manage medications when needed, but she'd rather help you get to the root of why you needed them in the first place. She is your compass when the path gets foggy.

The Herd (Your Equine Guides)

Here's the thing about horses: they always know their way home. They are sentient beings, living biofeedback systems that cannot lie. You can fake confidence for a human. You cannot fake your heart rate for a horse. They mirror your truth, expose your blind spots, and reward your authenticity with unwavering presence.
They don't judge. They don't coddle. They simply reflect back what you're carrying—and then wait for you to decide what to do with it.
The New Mexico Crew (Dr. Brown's Team):
-
A solid white Gypsy Vanner cob—majestic and wise.
-
A flock of chickens—because staying grounded is part of the journey.
-
Sancho, Ivy, and Cash—our three mini donkeys who remind us not to take life too seriously.
The Arizona Crew (Jessica's Team):
-
El Jefe:Â A Paint Stallion. Alpha energy. He teaches boundaries and self-respect.
-
Saint Germain:Â A Polish Arabian. Sensitivity and Sillyness. He works gently with the anxious and wounded.
-
Toscana: A Brazilian Marchador. Smooth and steady—perfect for grounding trauma work.
-
The "Pit Crew":Â Two Boston Terriers and a Black Lab mix. Because sometimes, the best breakthroughs happen with a wet nose in your palm.
